Toy Camera
These shots were all taken with a Diana camera or similar clone. The original Diana cameras were cheap plastic toys made in HongKong in the sixties and are quite hard to come by these days. They are full of light leaks that need covered in black tape and feature a plastic lens that is typically sharp in the middle and goes weird and wonky at the edges, giving a fun and somewhat unpredictable effect to the pictures made with it. Exposure is mostly a matter of guesswork and intuition.
I love this camera as a balance to the highly controlled studio work I do every day. And it’s a terrific example of the fact that good pictures are made by seeing good pictures, not by the price and brand name of your camera.
