Hi, my name is Patrick Arnold and I live with my wonderful wife and daughter in a little town in southwestern Illinois just outside of St. Louis, Mo. I've been a professional advertising photographer for almost thirty years but like many commercial shooters, my passion has always been art photography.
This site showcases some of my favorite personal work. It includes SX-70 Polaroid manipulations, Diana camera (toy camera) images and digital photography constructions as well as some straight color and black & white photography.
My work doesn't feature much social or political commentary, deep emotionalism or esoteric statements on the human condition, although I can appreciate that those elements are important to the larger world of fine art and culture. My personal style is more about balance, light, texture and form; an indulgence of my compulsion to organize everything I see into balanced compositions. But I do like a bit of moody melancholy and mid-western nostalgia thrown in for interest.
As a rule I don't include camera data or stories about my pictures. I've always believed that an effective image should stand on its own without embellishment. I don't care what camera or f-stop was used on a particular picture or where it was taken or what I was thinking when it was taken or if it was "taken" at all, or constructed in a studio or computer. For me, all of that information is irrelevant to the final image. If you as a viewer fail to respond without all that extra stuff then I have failed to communicate with my image.
Thanks for taking the time to check out my work, I hope you enjoy what you see. If you see something you’d like to purchase please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org for size and format options and prices.
