Hi, my name is Patrick Arnold and I live with my wonderful wife and daughter in a little town in southwestern Illinois just outside of St. Louis, Mo. I've been a professional advertising photographer for more than 25 years but like many commercial shooters, my passion has always been art photography.
This site showcases some of my favorite personal work. It includes SX-70 Polaroid manipulations, Diana camera (toy camera) images and digital photography constructions as well as some straight color and black & white photography.
My work doesn't feature much social or political commentary, deep emotionalism or esoteric statements on the human condition, although I can appreciate that those elements are important to the larger world of fine art and culture. My personal style is more about balance, light, texture and form; the simple enjoyment of the act of seeing, and responding to what is seen.
As a rule I don't include camera data or stories about my pictures. I've always believed that an effective image should stand on its own without embellishment. I don't care what camera or f-stop was used on a particular picture or where it was taken or what I was thinking when it was taken or if it was "taken" at all or constructed in a studio or computer. For me, all of that information is irrelevant to the final image. If you as a viewer fail to respond to an image without all that extra stuff then I have failed to communicate with my image.
Thanks for taking the time to check out my work. I hope you enjoy what you see. If there's something here that you think you could look at every day and still not get bored with you are welcome to purchase a print or canvas. It would bring me great joy to know that my work may bring some small joy to you and your home.
